Is APPLE iPhone XR Waterproof? Show you Water Test

Your position:

More and more waterproof smartphones are flooding the market. In the previous tests article, the android phone Blackview BV6600 has impressed us with its great waterproof feature. Now let’s take a look at the iPhone XR, which many people who are very interested in its water resistant ability. This waterproof test for iPhone XR was conducted by evaluator Lexy Savvides in Monterey Bay in California, America. And she'll show us how deep iPhone XR can go underwater.

According to Apple, the iPhone XR is not waterproof, but it has water resistant. It can survive being submerged under a depth of 1 meter (3 feet) for up to 30 minutes, meeting the IP67 standard.

Now, let us follow Lexy Savvides to see how deep this phone can go under the water.

Lexy Savvides and her team bought a new iPhone XR and went to Monterey Bay in California, to do the water-resistant tests under the salt water. It should be noted that you should never do the same since water damage to this phone is not covered under the Apple warranty.

First, they fixed the phone on a underwater drone, which featured a camera to tell them what was happening under the water. They kept the phone awake in this test, set a timer, and then slowly dropped the drone into water with a piece of string.

The first attempt: 2 meters

This depth exceeds what is supported by Apple. Therefore, Lexy Savvides' team shortened the test time greatly. After being submerged in water for about 5 minutes, this phone was taken out, and the timer was still running well. They dried this phone with a microfiber cloth, and the touch screen can work normally. There was no evidence that moisture and fogging had entered the lens. Buttons and Speakers can still work.

The challenging attempt: 5 meters

In order to bring more excitement, Lexy Savvides and her team decided to challenge the depth of 5 meters and extend the testing time to 19 minutes. They are preparing to bet on this new phone.

According to information sent back by the drone, except some amazing underwater wildlife was swimming, there is nothing went wrong. Once the device was dry, it can still work normally.

Extreme depth: 8 meters

As we know, waterproof performance of a device gradually decreases with the increase of water depth. The deeper a device goes under the water, the greater the pressure of the water pushing down on it, and the point which is sealed will be more vulnerable.

Lexy Savvide and her team took the iPhone XR to a depth of about 8 meters at the bottom of Monterey Bay. For the first few minutes, the phone performed well underwater. But after 3 minutes into the test, the phone flashed a warning on screen about the SIM card. It was the first sign that something was wrong with the phone, indicating that water had made its way into the SIM card tray. After about 6 minutes and 50 seconds, the screen went completely black.

After pulling the phone out of the water, they waited for it to dry, and then tried to turn it on, but nothing happened. And then water splashed out of the cavity resulting from removing the SIM card tray. That was not all. It seemed that a small bulge appeared on the iPhone XR's screen as it was lightly separated from the side of the phone (the side of the SIM card tray).

The above is the wonderful test of iPhone XR's water-resistant that Lexy Savvides and her team have showed to us at the cost of a lot of money.
